Pauline Anna Strom is a blind composer/keyboardist who made a few new age albums in the Bay area in the early-to-mid 80's. From the looks of everything you'd half expect something on the rainbows-and-unicorns side of things, but this is simply really nice electronic music, from long ambient passages with atmospheric tones to more slightly rhythmic pulses. Twinkly Rhodes mingles with the colorful palette, evoking an almost tropical scene at times, and others almost like a more sci-fi oriented ambient-era Eno. Really nice, quality work.
I apologize for some of the surface noise in places. It's not the cleanest copy. And the cover is actually white, so don't mind the terrible photo...

ReplyDeleteWow, thanks so much for posting this!, and for returning!.... been itching to hear this for a long time, you wouldn't happen to have 'plot zero' by her also?, I have a vague memory of hearing it long ago at an old friends place and enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteAll the Best,

ReplyDeleteI don't have "Plot Zero". This is the only album of hers that I've heard. Really interested in checking out the other stuff though.

ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: I have many of those Coloursound titles, but many and/or most of them have already been shared elsewhere, and are easy to locate with a blogger search.
ReplyDelete@Ben: Hey! Diggin' the Unidisc sample you put up the other day.
Hey NRC
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the good music you have shared here, I discover your blog today, and I will visit your blog many more times.
All the best from Portugal
Carlos
Love the eye in the cosmic egg cover! An album that definitely has its spaced out moments.
ReplyDeleteThat was one huge Coloursound request from the poster above ;) If anyone knows where I can find just two of them I would be most happy:
CS 16 Eric Vann - Space Face
CS 17 Alessandro Alessandroni - War
I have searched high and low for them but with no luck (there is a copy of 'War' going for £90 on Discogs but as I have only heard one or maybe two tracks there is no way I am going to spend that much without a full listen!).
While looking for 'War' I did stumble across an Alessandro Alessandroni that I have been really getting into lately and that's the 1971 'Devil's Nightmare' soundtrack he did with his sister Giulia which the excellent Holy Warbles blog has posted in glorious 320:

You 'hipsters' have probably known about it for years but for me it's a new discovery!
@Saucer People: I do have those two Coloursound albums, but only in digital form :). I will look on my hard drive to see how accessible they are and get back to you, but I'm not going to post them here publicly, as they were ripped by someone else.
ReplyDeleteJust posted Plot Zero here: http://allegory-of-allergies.blogspot.com/2010/11/trans-millenia-consort-plot-zero-1983.html
ReplyDeleteOof... I was going to post that one but you beat me to it. Such a cool album...
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks for it!
